Determined to Run

Image of 5K shirt design.
7.25.2015 Today was the annual Frankfort Sunflower Festival 5K. This was my first year running in the race. I am so glad I did. It is even better because LG was able to join me. There were so many times I wanted to walk. I had many excuses including: it's humid, my new shoes are hurting my knee, and I haven't ran three miles in weeks if not months. Fortunately, having LG by my side helped me to stay in the race. We finished at approximately 31:46. This is far from my best time (28:30something). Yet, I am not disappointed in the least. I have set my mind to running a half. You have to start somewhere. This summer I have made too many excuses to run. Having the short term goal of running a half in sight has helped me to rededicate myself to running and being more fit. Now if I could just stay away from cheesecake, sherbert, and iced coffee.... ;)

Also... I forgot to post about 7.23.2015. I ran a 9:32 pace for 1.8+ miles. I was cramping! I am so glad I did it though.

New exercise

7.22.2015 I do not plan to post everyday. Today I wanted to share my new exercise. I walk/ran for 1.92 miles for a pace of 11:27. The reason I chose to walk and run is due to that fact I just ran yesterday. I don't typically run two days in a row for fear of injury. The challenging part of tonight's run was not the distance, but what I did half way through. At one mile, I did 5 reps of hill sprints on Vollmar hill. My pace was around 6:50 for the one tenth of a mile section of intense hill sprints. I was very proud of my time and effort. For fear of completely messing up my walk/run pace, I only measured the last sprint. Next week, I will do something similar on a non-running day. I think I will even shoot for more reps.
Until next time- Love God and Love Others

Starting Point

7.21.2015 Each journey has a starting point and this is mine. I am a person who constantly loses and gains weight. My fitness level and weight level is consistently inconsistent. No longer will I allow my body to suffer from this rollercoaster.
Last week I decided to register for the Children's Hospital Half Marathon in October. This choice is two fold. First, I want to challenge myself physically and mentally while losing weight. Second, I want to support the kids who struggle daily.
They say weight is something you don't ask a woman about. For reasons of quantitative data and weight loss progression, it's important I share my weight (ugh!).
I weigh (drum roll please)... 172.8 lbs
Yuck! I've gained the last 15 lbs in just 3 months. That stops NOW!
My official training begins next week. Today I ran 2 miles with LG at a pace of 10:05. We stopped for about 2 minutes to walk at 1 mile. After that, we walked for 30 seconds one more time.
Tomorrow I hope to walk or do some online exercise.
I will post shortly.
Until then- Love God and Love Others
